Krui’s largest and most consistent swells arrive between June and September, during the peak Indian Ocean season. Powerful low-pressure systems in the Southern Ocean generate long-period groundswells that travel north, lighting up the coastline with clean, powerful, world-class surf.

It’s always best to bring your go-to board, whether that’s a shortboard, twin fin, or mid-length, along with a backup of the same board, as this is what you’ll likely be riding most of the time. Having a step-up option in your quiver can also be helpful for bigger days, although it’s not always necessary.
An all-round mid-length, egg, fish, or fun board is always worth packing, as there are plenty of smaller, playful days, especially at the beach and at breaks like Lintik. Longboards aren’t commonly brought due to travel logistics, but they can be a great option on smaller days at Ujun Bocur Point, Lintik Point, Krui Left, and Leftovers on a high tide. We’re starting to see more longboards out here, which is great.
For bodyboarders, Krui has a long-established and well-respected scene, with many waves perfectly suited to bodyboarding, making it a great destination for it.

The easiest way to get around is by scooter. We have brand new NMAX and Scoopy scooters available, making for a smooth and comfortable ride around town and up toward the Pagung area, including breaks like Jimmy’s Right, Jimmy’s Left, and Jenny’s.
For longer days or exploring further, we recommend hiring a car with a driver. It gives you the flexibility to stay out longer, keeps you comfortable in changing weather, and ensures your belongings are safe while you’re in the water.

We recommend filling up at official Pertamina petrol stations whenever possible. If needed, roadside petrol bowsers are a fine alternative, but it’s best to avoid bottled fuel, as it can sometimes contain water. This can flood the bike and require the tank to be drained, which can be especially inconvenient if you’re far from town.

Yes, luckily Lost Mayhem Indonesia has partnered with our good friends at Leafy Surf Shop (Mandiri), where you’ll find a solid range of shortboards in-store. If you’re staying longer, they can also arrange specific boards to be brought in for you.
If you’re not looking to buy, Leafy Surf Shop (Krui) also offers a great selection of rental boards, including quality options from Australia, so you can stay in the water without missing a beat.

A: So much more than just surfing. Krui is surrounded by Sumatra’s wild, untouched nature, think jungle, rivers, and quiet stretches of coastline. On your lay days, you can explore waterfalls, go river tubing, fishing, spearfishing, or snorkeling. It’s a great place to slow down and enjoy nature.

Absolutely, we use Starlink to provide a fast and reliable internet connection, helping us maintain a premium guest experience. While it can occasionally be affected by heavy cloud cover or storms, it’s generally a significant upgrade from the local Wi-Fi in the area.
We’ve invested in this to better support guests who work remotely or stay for longer periods, making it a great option for digital nomads or anyone needing consistent connectivity during their stay.
